The Health Affairs Committee of Egypt’s Parliament has approved a draft law to establish a medical emergency response fund. The Committee has called for the Health Ministry to set the Fund’s budget. The aim of the draft law is to establish a system to sustain financing services provided by the Health Ministry on prevention of diseases and eliminating patient waiting lists. The Fund will also support purchasing medicines and providing funding relief for major accidents, emergencies, intensive care, premature children and burn injuries. It will have its own legal personality and will be financially and administratively independent. It will report to the Prime Minister. If approved, the family health fund system across the country will be abolished and their funds will be transferred to the Response Fund. Histoire complète
