Dubai: Face Mask Exemption Criteria Announced

The Dubai Police and Dubai Health Authority have announced the face mask exemption criteria for eligible residents. It means residents with particular medical conditions will be able to able to apply for a permit to get an exemption from the requirement to wear a face mask. The General Medical Committee Office of the Health Authority will assess applications. The applications must include a medical report confirming the applicant suffers from medical problems which can be aggravated by face masks. The applicant’s Emirates ID must also be submitted. Applications can be made via the Dubai Police website www.dxbpermit.gov.ae. The Committee will consider the request and accompanying medical documents against certain criteria and conditions. It will be processed within five days. The validity of the exemption given to an applicant will depend on their health condition. Those suffering from fungal dermatitis, especially if they have severe symptoms in the face like bleeding, itching and scaly skin or those allergic to any component of a mask like allergic dermatitis, contact dermatitis and contact urticaria will potentially be exempt. Similarly, individuals with severe herpes simplex infection which affects the mouth, nose or face or individuals with acute and uncontrolled chronic sinusitis will potentially be exempt.
