Grand Mosque Admission Rules Clarified

The Deputy Head of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has clarified any pilgrims suspected of having Coronavirus will not be allowed into the Grand Mosque. It comes ahead of the resumption of the Umrah pilgrimage on 4 October. They added the Kingdom’s Health Ministry has established small health centres to handle suspected Coronavirus cases. The first track of the mataf will be reserved for the elderly and those with special needs who are wheelchair-bound. Umrah will start at 7am and end at 3am. High-resolution thermal cameras have been installed at all of the entrances to the Grand Mosque and a ban on i’tikaaf and bringing food and soft drinks into the mosque has been announced. The Grand Mosque will be cleaned completely 10 times a day including before and after the performance of Umrah by groups of pilgrims. All toilets will be washed and sterilised six times a day while carpets, wheelchairs and escalators in the Grand Mosque will be regularly sterilised.
