School Attendance Not Compulsory

A media consultant for Qatar’s Education and Higher Education Minister has announced parents will be able to decide from next week if their children attend school or not. From next week they will be able to decide if they continue with blended learning or move completely to remote learning. Blended learning has been in place since schools returned on 1 September. The Ministry will have to adapt to the decision of parents. However, no more than 30% of a school will be able to be full at a given time and the appropriate anti-Coronavirus measures will have to be complied with. In addition, the attendance of students and absences will have to be recorded. Students will still have to physically attend exams.

If any cases are discovered, the appropriate anti-Coronavirus measures will have to be complied with. This means students in infected classrooms should not be allowed to attend school and should be referred to the Public Health Ministry to take tests. Where classrooms are closed, the school management must notify the parents of the closure via text message. The Ministry will have to announce if an entire school is closed, If the number of Coronavirus cases increases, a recommendation will be made to suspend the respective classroom or school and switch to remote learning. Histoire complète
