Mosque Reopening Guidelines Issued in Dubai

Dubai’s Community Development Authority has issued new guidelines for the reopening of mosques in the Emirate.

When they reopen mosques and other places of worship will be able to host up to 50% of a venue’s worshippers. They will be able to reopen for defined prayers and in agreement with the Authority. Under the guidelines, prayers must start at the agreed time and the place of worship must be closed immediately after. All doors and windows must also be kept open from the start of the prayers until the end and worship centres must ensure thermal equipment to take the temperatures of worshippers before they enter the premises is available. Those with a temperature of 37.5 or more will be denied entry. Worshippers should enter in one line and leave in another and must comply with social distancing rules as they enter and leave to avoid overcrowding. Face masks and gloves will not be allowed to be distributed at entrances and no food will be able to be donated or distributed in or around the place of worship. All wash rooms and ablution areas must be closed and places of worship must commit to continuous cleaning and ensure there are closed bins for the safe disposal of used face masks and other waste. However, no date for reopening has been given. Other places of worship like churches, the Hindu temple in Bur Dubai and the Gurunanak Darbar Sikh Temple in Jebel Ali are already preparing to reopen. They are implementing disinfection tunnels, putting social-distance markers on floors and putting hand sanitiser dispensers at their venues. In addition, worshippers will have to bring their own prayer materials and keep one row empty between every other row of worshippers. They will also need to bring their own prayer books and other prayer-related materials and they will not be able to pray on their ow after the general prayers have ended.Worshippers will have to leave the place of worship immediately after the prayer and avoid physical greetings such as handshakes. Finally, gatherings before or after prayers are not allowed. Children under 12, those over 60, those with chronic diseases, those prone to infection or anyone who has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Coronavirus will not be allowed into these places of worship. Histoire complète
