Government Authority Provides Electronic Wristbands to Follow Up on Cases Subject to Quarantine

As a part of national efforts to reduce the spread of the Corona virus (COVID-19), the CEO of the Information and E-Government Authority has announced that the Authority has begun providing the first batch of electronic wristbands which will allow tracking of individuals who are suspected of being infected with the virus. He explained that the wristbands would be linked to an application electronically via smart phones, and will also help the follow-up mechanism the Ministry of Health is using with all cases. The programming, distribution, and follow-up processes for these electronic wristbands will be carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health. The Chief Executive Officer of the Information and e-Government Authority stated according to a decision issued by the Minister of Health, all those subject to home quarantine would be obliged to download the “Conscious Community” application and wear the wristbands on. He added that if any of these individuals violated quarantine procedures, the application would then send an alert to the individual about their violation of the quarantine, and penalties would apply according to the Public Health Law, Bahrain Law No. 34/2018, which is punishable by imprisonment for a period of no less than three months and a fine of no less than 1,000 Dinars.
