Foreign Land Transport Service Permits to be Reduced

Oman’s Transport, Telecommunications and IT Ministry has announced it decided to reduce the numbers of foreign land transport service permits. It follows meetings between the Ministry and owners of land transport services in the Sultanate to discuss issues which affect local transporters. One of the issues raised was the number of foreign land transport service providers and the visas issued to their drivers as well as the priority of local transporters over foreign ones. The Ministry confirmed it has made a number of decisions, including reducing the number of permits issued annually to foreign land transport service providers to bring in empty transport vehicles to provide transport service outside the country from 20 October. The Ministry added these permits will be permanently suspended after this period. Affected service providers will then have to contract local providers or invest in the transport sector. Full story
