Employers Can Terminate Employees for Refusing to Wear Face Masks

According to local journalists, employers can terminate an employee’s employment if they fail to wear a face mask in the office. They can do so without paying compensation to them. It would constitute termination with a valid reason. There is a 2011 Supreme Court Decision to support this. The justification is that it would constitute a direct violation of an employment policy enshrined in Turkey’s Labour laws. In particular, they would be culpable for ‘endangering workplace safety, disobeying instructions and violating rules of the workplace’. Full story
