Commercial Centre and Mall Opening Times Revised

The opening times for commercial centres and malls has been revised in Muscat. The Muscat Municipality has announced commercial centres and malls can open from 10am to 10pm. This will not apply to hypermarkets and dressing and fitting rooms can still not reopen. Previously they could not open from 12pm to 9pm. They were allowed to reopen last week but have to comply with strict anti-Coronavirus measures.

These procedures include bans on over-60s and under-12s from going to commercial centres or malls. All visitors have to have their temperatures taken before they enter the mall and all seats have to be removed from common areas. Prayer halls have to stay closed until further notice and only 50% of parking spaces should be available. They should be patrolled by security personnel and operations staff. Sit in a mall’s facilities is forbidden and cafes and restaurants will only serve takeaway meals. Hand dryers in restrooms have to be switched off and closed so as customers cannot use them. The managers of malls have to carry out routine inspection in stores to ensure effective and frequent disinfection and sanitisation is being carried out by all outlets. Retailers cannot transfer an employee from one branch to another. Employees have to be in malls to monitor whether customers are wearing face masks to prevent customers gatherings in the same place. They should prevent customers from entering if there is a risk of overcrowding. Customers will have to wear a face mask when entering the mall. Signs will have to be placed at the entrances to malls and customers will not be allowed to stay for more than two hours. Malls reserve the right to take the necessary measures to close shops or inform the Municipality if the retailer fails to comply with the anti-Coronavirus measures. Social distancing rules in all common areas, elevators, escalators, food court, ATMs etc will have to be complied with. Full story
