Midday Working Ban to be Introduced Next Month

Bahrain’s Labour and Social Development Ministry has announced the midday work ban will come into force in the Kingdom. on 1 July. It has been introduced in line with Bahrain Ministerial Edict No. 39/2013 and bans outdoor work from 12.00pm to 4.00pm for two months. It is aimed at protecting employees from heat exhaustion and sunstroke as well as other summer-related diseases. The Labour Ministry has launched an awareness campaign to ensure employers and employees comply. They have distributed multilingual brochures, leaflets and posts including information about the negative effects of high temperatures on the health and safety of employees. It has also conducted virtual workshops. Violations will not be accepted and where the violation is repeated, the penalty will be doubled. Those who do not comply will be jailed for up to three months and/or fined between 500 and 1,000 Dinars. Full story
