Midday Outdoor Work Ban

The annual mandatory midday break for workers working outside in the UAE will begin from 15 June 2020. According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), the three-month midday break will continue until 15 September 2020. The midday break for workers in the UAE is given every year during summer preventing any sort of work in open areas between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. Employers should not allow outdoor workers to work outside during this time. Field workers should also be provided with shelter. Those breaching the provisions are fined 5,000 AED per person found breaching the rules up to a maximum of 50,000 AED. In exceptional cases where such work is required employers must provide cold water, shade, air conditioning and items like salt and lemon recommended by the health authorities. Exceptions include work with asphalt and poured concrete, and situations where the work is needed to prevent danger, damage, malfunction or loss. Full story
