COVID-19: FREEZING OF PAYMENT OF SOCIAL AID COLLECTED BY OFFICIALS

The Ministry of Social Affairs published, on April 11, 2020, a press release aimed at clarifying the situation regarding social assistance intended for the most deprived families, received by 4,000 officials.

This error is due, the ministry said, to the fact that the list of low-income families has not been updated for years. As a result, people who recently joined the public service were not removed from this list and were therefore considered to be needy.

According to the statement, only 600 people received social assistance and the remaining 3,400 transfers were frozen. Persons who have therefore illegally benefited from this aid will be penalized by law.

In addition, the Ministry of Social Affairs was able, in collaboration with the other institutions, to update the list of low-income families who could thus claim the social assistance made available to combat the socio-economic fallout of Covid- 19 on Tunisian territory.
