The Communications Directorate of Turkey’s President has announced Turkish citizens with Coronavirus will be tracked through their mobile phones. The aim is to ensure they do not break isolation rules. They will send them a message and call them each time they leave their homes. If they do leave their homes, they will be asked to return home and those who continually violate the isolation rules will be punished. Under Turkish law personal data can be processed without consent for ‘exceptional aims. The Directorate has said they will not use the personal data for any other reason. It is the latest measure to tackle the spread of the virus in the country where mass prayers have been banned, schools closed, inter-city travel banned, some towns quarantined and bars and restaurants closed. The country’s President has avoided imposing a mandatory lock down instead urging citizens to isolate voluntarily. Full story
